Return to the main North Fork Yuba River Rafting Page
This North Yuba and American River rafting trip provides spring and early summer whitewater excitement and is one of our most popular early season Class 4 overnight trips. We combine two classic and outstanding runs starting with the “Maytag” run on the North Fork Yuba River and finishing with the “Chamberlain Falls” run on the North Fork American River. This rafting trip takes advantage of our secluded camp site on the North Fork Yuba River so great for groups wanting some elbow room, rather than the more public camping on the American River.
We meet at our Tributary camp off Highway 49 (Indian Valley Road near Camptonville) for the “Maytag” run on the North Yuba River. A short shuttle takes us up to the Goodyears Bar put-in. You get to warm up on some Class 2-3 boulder gardens before the Class 4 ‘Ramshorn’ and then more Class 3 before the Class 4 double drops of ‘Two Pair’. We will stop for lunch along the way. Just over six miles into the trip is the highlight – the Class 5 ‘Maytag’. We stop above this rapid and scout it, so all clients have the option of walking around. The Class 4 ‘Son of Maytag’ falls follows quickly, with more Class 3 action to the take-out. There is a short hike from the river back to camp where refreshments await you.
In the evening, while the guides prepare dinner, clients can set-up their camp, fish, hike or simply relax around the camp fire. The following morning we have breakfast in camp prepared by your fantastic guides and personal equipment is packed up.
It takes just over 1 hour to get to our office in Weimar for the “Chamberlain Falls” run on the North Fork American River. We normally caravan to this meeting location and then load you up for the shuttle to the put-in. The action starts quickly with ‘Slaughter’s Sluice’ less than ½ mile from put-in. The most difficult rapid – ‘Chamberlain Falls’ is encountered next, and great Class 4 action continues with ‘Tongue & Groove’, ‘Zig-Zag’, ‘Achilles’ Heel’, ‘Bogus Thunder’, ‘Grand Slalom’ and a series of three river wide ledges called ‘Staircase’. We have lunch on river, and maybe hike up Indian Creek. After lunch we raft Class 2-3 rapids to the take-out at Ponderosa Bridge. There will be cold drinks for you at the take out to enjoy while we shuttle you back to your cars.
Tributary Whitewater Tours operates under permit from the Tahoe National Forest Yuba River Ranger District for trips on the North Yuba River, and through California State Parks American River Ranger District for trips on the North American. Tributary is an equal opportunity service provider.
