Return to the main South Fork American River Rafting Page
The South Fork American River Upper Chili Bar run is a morning whitewater rafting trip. It is best suited for those who are comfortable with getting Class 3 action right out of the gate! This “Upper Chili Bar” rafting trip on the South Fork American River requires an early start to catch the water releases at the top of the river. We shuttle you in a bus from our meeting location to the launch point near Placerville.
After the usual pre-trip instruction, the rafting action begins quickly with the Class 3 Meatgrinder rapid and continues for the next 5+ miles with Racehorse Bend, Rock Garden, Triple Threat, and the infamous Class 3+ Troublemaker. The river slows as we pass through the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, that is worth a visit after your raft trip. We take-out back at the meeting location where there are cold drinks are waiting for you and lunch is served.
