Return to the main Truckee River Rafting trips Page

Our Truckee River rafting trips are guided whitewater trips, not to be confused with the float trip raft rentals out of Tahoe City. These rafting trips are scheduled 2 times a day in the morning and in the afternoon. We meet our clients east of the town of Truckee at the Truckee River RV Park. We transport you a very short distance to the put-in site on the Little Truckee River below Boca Reservoir.

Before embarking on your Truckee River rafting trip, personal flotation devices, paddles & helmets are provided and a safety talk is given. Each whitewater raft contains a professional river guide who will call out commands and help steer. Paddling skills are explained and practiced before your rafts head downstream on this 7 mile river trip.

Soon after the confluence of the Little Truckee and the main Truckee River, the whitewater starts with some class 2 boulder gardens. It is possible for you to take a dip in this scenic swimming area. The Truckee River enters a volcanic canyon, of craggy eroded cliffs formed by ancient lava flows from Mt. Pluto. There are fun Class 2-2+ rapids for your rafts to maneuver through, like Wake Up (AKA Menace Rapid), Airplane Turn and Railroad Rapid (AKA lower & upper Rock Garden).

Just before the last mile, the river enters the Floriston Gorge. The Class 2+ Kabob rapid is followed by a couple of Class 2 drops which lead into the Class 3+ “Jaws”. Just around the corner the river drops into a long boulder garden called Pinball Machine. This is followed by the Class 3+ Bronco Ledge and lower Bronco.

At the take-out in Floriston we serve you refreshments. The guides load the equipment and we shuttle you back to the meeting location.

YES THERE IS RAFTING ON THE TRUCKEE RIVER !! We often hear that people were told there was no Truckee River rafting. This can be due to high or low water near Tahoe City. The raft rentals only get water from Lake Tahoe. We get this water plus releases from several downstream reservoirs. We are often running trips even when the raft rentals are shut down. Call us if you have questions.

The Boca run is not just a float trip. It has Class 3-3+ rapids and a professional guide. If you are in South Lake Tahoe looking for a longer trip, check out the  South Fork American , or from the North Shore the Lower Middle Fork American is an easier option suitable for younger kids and seniors.
Raft capacity is 5-6 depending on flow. If you have a group of 6-8 you really don’t want to split, then consider a drive to the  South Fork American  (8 max per raft).
