Due to the high snow pack California had acquired this winter, I had decided to travel down from Portland to run the North fork of the American river knowing that this year the water would be high. I thought their website was well laid out and decided to use Tributary as the outfitter to paddle with. I’m glad I went with them. It’s a funny juxtaposition to call raft guides, who are notoriously laid back and comical, professionals. But the guides on my trip were exactly that professionals raft guides, still fun but I felt safe. There is only a quarter of a mile before this run gets intense so not a a lot of time to get ready as a paddle crew meeting each other for the first time. My guide Drayson was young but he knew the lines that we needed to take and prepped us with that information before going into each rapid and skillfully guided us through an amazing class 4+ run. At lunch the trip leader Jeremiah (appologize if spelled wrong) came around and made us all Arnold Palmers, which was so refreshing it was clearly a Pro move. Though our lunch was sandwiches, the spread of options was great and the fresh fruit very enjoyable in an amazing setting along a beautiful stretch of river. Thank you to my guides and Tributary, I wish I was in your area to take advantage of your same season returner discount. If I’m ever back that way I will definitely be paddling with Tributary.
