It’s home to some of the best whitewater rafting in the country. From beginner-friendly flows to heart-pounding drops, California’s rivers bring it all.
When Should You Raft in California?
Timing is everything! If you are looking for unique rivers that rarely run – the best months for rafting depend on one key ingredient: snowmelt. More snow in the winter means bigger, bolder rapids in the spring and early summer.
- April – May: We have options for any type of rafter this time of year, including young families starting at ages 4+. One thing early-season trips also bring, is higher, faster waters fueled by fresh melting snow. Perfect for those looking for Class IV and above. By June, our spring only rivers have typically stopped flowing, that’s why you have to take advantage of the early season!
- June – August: Water levels are still strong but don’t pack as much of a punch as early season. These months have steadier flows and are great for everyone – including families and first-timers looking for a more relaxed ride.
- September – October: Water levels are decreasing but temps are still warm. A perfect time to escape the crowds and enjoy the river.
