The South Fork American River Lotus Run is a rafting trip suitable for younger kids, older seniors and timid rafters. Its an easy guided river trip which contains mild Class 1 & 2 rapids. It can be coordinated with a more adventurous trip when you have a mixed group so everyone can participate – it is the first 4 miles of the South Fork American 1 day “Gorge” run. Both these trips include riverside camping at our private camp and breakfast the following morning!

Arrive the night before your rafting trip at our private riverside camp located at Rivers Bend Resort! You are welcome to bring your own camping gear or rent from us. We even have 2 person and family size (5 person) Cabin tents available. These are situated on a wooden platform with a deck and appropriate # of chairs and sleeping cots to accommodate.

The following morning awake to the sound of the river. Breakfast is served in our kitchen at 8:00am. We meet at 10:30am in the parking lot for a short shuttle to the Highway 49 bridge put in where pre-trip instruction is given. PFD’s and helmets are fitted, and paddles given out before launching. The group enjoys an easy 4 mile float with fun rapids including ‘Barking Dog’ before we arrive back to our camp for lunch.

With mixed groups, where there are people who either cannot or do not want to raft Class 3 (younger children, seniors, pregnant ladies etc.) the trip finishes at the meeting location after the lunch. The “Lotus Run” clients are welcome to stay and play at the river side camp site. We encourage you to hold on to the PFD’s for any children after the trip if they are going to stay by the river, but please remember to return them to a staff member when done. Those who raft just the Class 2 section will have access to their cars and be able to visit the nearby Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park or take some easy local hikes. The more adventurous (and youths from 6-8 years) can continue on and tackle the Class 3 rapids through the “Gorge”. Previous reservations for the Gorge trip are preferred but can often be accommodated on the day. The South Fork American River Lotus Run has limited availability, especially on weekends and during peak holidays.
