Hells Canyon white water rafting trips on the Snake River in Oregon are a sought after unique outdoor camping adventure. Spend 4 days on the the deepest naturally carved river canyon exploring, relaxing and maybe getting in some history and geology at the same time. This Snake River (and plains) hold stories from the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark Expedition, Nez Perce and Shoshone Native American tribes and inhabitants dating back over 11,000 years.

Trip Itinerary

The night before your rafting trip begins:

  • Meet 6:00pm @ our Halfway Outpost for Meet & Greet dinner with your crew and other guests. We will provide you with your dry bags for your gear to pack that evening.

After our meet & greet dinner enjoy an evening at the Pine Valley Lodge. Breakfast the following morning is included at this location.

 

On “river time” is pretty relaxed with lots of fun additional daily activities. We will explore Hells Canyon through guided hikes including historical and interoperative with, wildlife viewing, pictographs, and cabins!

 

Day 1: 

  • meet 9:00am @ Tributary Outpost
  • shuttle to Hells Canyon Dam Visitors Center Put in, we will begin rigging the boats
  • rafting, fishing and possible side hikes
  • mid-day stop for riverside lunch
  • more rafting and fishing
  • early evening we pull into camp where your tents are already set up for you
  • appetizers, dinner and riverside camaraderie

Day 2: 

  • wake up to the sounds of the river and nature surrounding
  • coffee, tea and other hot drinks available first thing in the morning
  • breakfast @ camp
  • rafting, fishing & scouting the rapids
  • lunch
  • more rafting, fishing and rapid scouting
  • fresh caught fish fry dinner
  • camping

Day 3:

  • another relaxing morning by the river, wake up and enjoy a leisurely breakfast at camp 
  • rafting, fishing and side hikes with a mid-day riverside lunch
  • camp
  • dinner
  • camping

Day 4:

  • our final morning watching the sun crest the canyon walls as we sip coffee/tea/cocoa
  • breakfast at camp
  • rafting with fishing and wildlife viewing
  • lunch
  • rafting
  • upon arrival at Kirkwood Ranch we will travel via exhilarating jet boat ride up the mighty rapids of the Snake

what to bring

Participants packing list:

ITEMS FOR ON RIVER 

  • re-usable water bottle – 32oz or more
  • shoes/sandals with heel strap (no flip flops, you can bring these for at camp)
  • sunscreen 
  • sunglasses (with a strap)
  • full sun hat or baseball hat
  • camera or cell phone (there is no cell reception, but you are welcome to bring your phone to take photos)
 

ITEMS FOR CAMP 

We suggest you pack your personal gear in a duffel bag (or similar type bag) that can easily be packed into a large dry bag while on the river. Your sleeping bag and pillow do not need to be in a separate bag. 

  • BYOB – you are welcome to bring you own alcoholic beverages, we will safely transport these down the river for you
  • sleeping bag

  • change of clothes (2-3 outfits for day/evening)
  • sweatshirt/light jacket
  • towel
  • flashlight/headlamp
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap)*

*Please be sure to bring only eco-friendly soaps and substances on the river

  • Expensive jewelry

  • 3 nights luxury riverside camping (tents and sleeping pads set up before you arrive at camp)

  • PFD (Personal floatation device / aka life jacket)

  • Large dry bag for your overnight gear (duffel of clothes etc) – for access @ camp

  • Top of the line camping equipment (tent and sleeping pad)

For Sunday evening accommodations, we have a secured set of rooms set aside, please be sure to contact them to make a reservation, this is not included with the trip. Breakfast Monday morning is included with your stay. 

Tributary Outpost

Sunday evening – meeting 6:00pm for cocktails and dinner 

Monday morning – meeting 9:00am river ready with all gear packed
