TRIP OVERVIEW

Fishing & Hunting on the Snake River / Hells Canyon

Prepare for an off-the-grid 4-day fishing and hunting trip on the world renowned Snake River. Each day we focus on finding the best fishing spots with our guides using their detailed river knowledge to get you the biggest catch. There are a variety of fish found in the Snake River and one of the most exciting (and interesting) are white sturgeon. White sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America, can grow to an average of 7-12 feet long and weigh 100s of lbs. And yes, many guests have caught sturgeon during this trip. (Note that sturgeon are catch and release only.)

We use a combination of two person aluminum drift boats (Dory boats) and traditional river rafting boats throughout the trip allowing guests to try fishing from both throughout the 4 day trip. Evenings at camp offer hearty meals, great stories, and a chance to bond… and talk about the biggest catch of the day.

All of the camping gear is provided and set up in advance of your arrival.  Tent, cot and pad… all you need is your pillow and sleeping bag. During the fall we provide heated framed canvas tents.  Guides do all the work to set up camp and prepare riverside meals, some of which can be the fish caught that day.

Fishing

Fishing activities are available on all Hells Canyon Fishing and Chukar Hunting trips.

There are several seasonal runs (where the fish runs from one body of water to another) for trout, bass and steelhead. We keep the fish that guests would like to eat while on the river trip, and release the rest.

We suggest purchasing an Oregon fishing license if you do not hold one already, this will ensure you can fish from the boat as well as the Oregon shores where we camp overnight. Idaho fishing licenses will allow you to fish from the boat, but only on Idaho land.

Chukar Hunting

The fall brings cooler temperatures and the opportunity for Chukar Hunting to Hells Canyon – these trips are offered from mid-September into November. Hunters are dropped off on shore to walk the trails up on the bluff providing remote access to prime game country. River access provides easy opportunity to access game, approaching chukar on shore with the ability to fire from the boat (on the Oregon side).

Your equipment is stored in water tight compartments in our 20′ drift boats with ample room for fishing as well.
