This is a custom trip that is sometimes available for experienced groups – previous paddling experience is required for this trip as is starts upstream on a Class 5 section.

We meet at our Tributary camp off Highway 49 near the Indian Valley campground in the morning and shuttle up to Union Flat for the put in.

The first part of the trip is the 6 miles from Union Flat to Downieville, which contains nearly continuous Class 4-5 rapids. The most intense action is from mile 2-3 in the Class 5 Moss Canyon, with 3 large drops ending with “Boss Moss” rapid and one big daddy hole. We stop for lunch in the quaint town of Downieville, and then take a quick shuttle around Rossasco Ravine (a Class 5 section with a small window of runnable flows). We put-in again at Convict Flat to tackle the best part of Maytag run which includes all of the Class 4 rapids and the Class 5 Maytag rapid.

There is a short hike from the river back to camp where refreshments await you. Typically clients help carry boats and equipment at the end of the trip.

Wetsuits are typically required for this trip. Rentals are $10 or you are welcome to bring your own.
