The South Fork American River is located in Coloma, CA. This is where the James Marshall first found gold starting the California Gold Rush. The area is well known for whitewater rafting, camping, wine tasting, and more! Our white water rafting trips are offered as 1/2, 1 and multi-day trips suitable for kids 7+ (short run OK for kids 4+).
On this section of the South Fork American River you will find many Class 2-3+ rapids. Once you pass “The Lollipop Tree” and enter the Gorge you will encounter rapids like “Fowlers Rock”, “Satan’s Cesspool” and “Hospital Bar”. Most South Fork American River trips are on this section due to the fact that trips on this section are late-morning to the afternoon. For rafting trips on this section check out our Half Day and 1 day Trip options, you will also raft this part on our 1 day Full River trip and Overnights.
This upper section of the South Fork American River is typically run in the morning due to the dam controlled flows. The Half Day trip is perfect for those who want a free afternoon…wine tasting anyone? This section is also part of our 1 day Full River trip and Overnights.
